Saturday, 03 November 2012 20:10 View Comments Vice-President Joice Mujuru says churches should be on the forefront of promoting unity in the country rather than being known for divisions and factionalism.

Cde Mujuru made the remarks at the official commissioning of the Salvation Army Braeside church hall in Harare where she noted with concern the splits within churches that cause animosity among Christians. She said the church has an important role to play in nation building, but this can only be accomplished if it is united. She reminded religious leaders that they have a critical role to play in peace building programmes as the church remains critical in fostering harmony amongst Zimbabweans. The Territorial Commander of The Salvation Army in Zimbabwe, Commissioner Venice Chigariro said the new church building is meant to accommodate more people as Christianity continues to grow in the country. The official commissioning of the church hall was attended by the Minister of Transport, Communications and Infrastructural Development, Cde Nicholas Goche, Zanu PF Politburo Member, Cde Tendai Savanhu, senior government officials and the leadership of The Salvation Army. The political leaders, including Cde Mujuru, Cde Goche and Cde Savanhu donated money to buy furniture for the church hall.
